Social Stock Exchange

The Social Stock Exchange (SSE) is an electronic fundraising platform under the regulatory ambit of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). It was proposed in the Budget Speech for FY 2019-20 by the Hon'ble Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman. The SSE aims to list social enterprises and voluntary organizations working towards social welfare objectives, enabling them to raise capital through issue of Zero Coupon Zero Principal Bonds (ZCZP)

Zero Coupon Zero Principal Bonds

  • ZCZP, as in its name, does not pay any periodic interest (Zero Coupon) nor is eligible for repayment of principal (Zero Principal).

  • The subscription shall be made through DEMAT accounts.

  • The subscribers to the ZCZP bonds can avail 80G Benefit.

  • The ZCZP Bonds are not tradable

Investing in Emergency and Trauma Care

Background

On March 25, 2023, the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, inaugurated the Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in the presence of its Founder, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai. Established by the Prashanthi Balamandira Trust (PBT), this institute is India's first completely free private medical college, operating under the Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence.

Guided by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the institute was designed to include a state-of-the-art academic block and two teaching hospitals, ensuring world-class medical education and healthcare services for all, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, or financial status.

Developments

In 2018, the Sri Sathya Sai Sarla Memorial Hospital, a multi-disciplinary facility, was established as the first teaching hospital for the medical college. Further strengthening its academic infrastructure, the Sri Sathya Sai Rajeswari Memorial Academic Block, a modern and well-equipped facility, was inaugurated in 2023 to support advanced medical education and research.​

The Second Teaching Facility

Currently, PBT is building the world's largest completely free of-charge hospital at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli which is set to have 600 beds with the following salient features

As part of this initiative, the trust aims to establish a state-of the-art Emergency and Trauma Care Wing, which is the focus of the Social Stock Exchange Listing

Recognizing the dire need for affordable emergency medical care in Chikkaballapur and surrounding districts, PBT has dedicated significant resources to the Emergency Wing.​

The Critical Need

  • India faces a severe shortage of emergency and trauma care facilities, particularly in rural areas​

  • With over 150,000 deaths annually due to road accidents, delayed medical intervention is a critical issue.​

  • Chikkaballapur District lacks a fully equipped emergency care unit, forcing patients to travel long distances, resulting in lost time and preventable fatalities.​

  • This project aims to address this gap by bringing quality healthcare to those who need it most, reducing mortality rates and improving overall health outcomes.

Project Listed on SSE - Construction and Establishment of Emergency and Trauma Care Wing

This state-of-the-art facility will include an Emergency Operation Theatre, 36 specialized beds for triage, red, yellow, and green zones. Additionally, Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR) is the only hospital in Chikkaballapur that has the capacity to caters to cardiac emergencies, ensuring that patients with cardiac emergencies can be promptly attended to by cardiac specialists and the necessary infrastructure (such as Cath Lab and Coronary Care Units).

Issue Size - Rs. 18 Crores

The funding received from the listing shall be used to construct and set up the Emergency and Trauma Care Wing of the 600 bed hospital.
